'Fuller House' releases first footage of cast

The preview shows the cast assemble to help D.J. Tanner (Bure) move her sons and belongings back into dad Danny Tanner's (Bob Saget) house. The footage is the first to feature the returning Full House stars and new actors.

Jodie Sweetin appears as D.J.'s sister Stephanie Tanner, with Andrea Barber as D.J.'s best friend Kimmy Gibbler, John Stamos as Uncle Jesse, Lori Loughlin as Aunt Becky and Dave Coulier as Uncle Joey.

 

Newcomer Michael Campion plays D.J.'s eldest son Jackson, with Elias Harger as middle son Max and Dashiel and Fox Messitt as youngest son Tommy. Soni Nicole Bringas plays Kimmy's teenage daughter, Ramona.

Fuller House is a sequel series to Full House and will premiere Feb. 26 on Netflix. The show follows an adult and widowed D.J. as she raises her sons with the help of Stephanie, Kimmy and her friends and family.

"She's a bit like Danny Tanner as a dad," Bure told Entertainment Tonight of D.J.'s parenting style. "She's very organized and orderly. She's a single mom, so she kind of has to be with three kids, and she's the mom in the group in every way, between Kimmy and Stephanie."

"She's just a little more straight-laced than everyone else is, and the other girls kind of loosen her up along the way," she added. "I can honestly say that every scene with Andrea Barber and Jodie Sweetin and the legacy cast ... they are forever just a huge part of my heart and just so much fun."

Making a Murderer - the real-life mystery on Netflix that is gripping Britain

Forget Sherlock, Strictly and the rest, the surprise hit of Christmas TV is a real-life murder-mystery from a backwater county in America.

The acclaimed documentary Making a Murderer was released on Netflix a week before Christmas but has since gripped viewers across the States and Britain.

The first of 10 episodes shows Steven Avery, a Wisconsin man, being released after serving 18 years in prison for a rape that new DNA ­evidence proves he did not commit.

But, after returning to his family, who run a scrapyard in the sticks and trying to rebuild his life, the roof caves in again.

Days before his lawyers are due to take crucial statements to support his £24million lawsuit against the local police and county prosecutors, he is accused of another terrible crime – the murder of a young photographer – as prosecutors reveal the apparently damning evidence against him.

The shocking series follows the ensuing investigation and trials and – built on court footage, taped telephone calls, interviews with the Averys and news bulletins – has more twists and turns, heroes and villains than any Hollywood thriller.

Critics, like viewers, have been stunned by the disturbing series and Lenika Cruz, in the Atlantic magazine, says the streaming of one gripping episode after another defines the new way viewers are watching TV.

She said: “What it lacks in terms of sensationalism and gloss, it makes up for by possessing that very quality every Netflix show aspires to have – bingeability.

“The series begins slowly but, after grasping enough names and faces, you start feeling a sense of total immersion. You never quite feel that you’re too eagerly consuming someone else’s tragedy.

“Each revelation or twist brings enough frustration or disbelief to balance any feeling of exhilaration.

“Making a Murderer has the potential to be as popular and thought-provoking as its forebears – and to have real-life repercussions.”

The fear of revealing plot spoilers by talking about the series to people still to watch it is also typical of the new way we are watching television, according to media studies experts.

They say viewers have become far more wary of talking about plot twists until they are sure everyone in the conversation is at the same point in the series.

Smoke still wafting from Dubai's luxury Address hotel after New Year's blaze

 

CNN)Clouds of smoke continued to waft Friday from a 63-floor luxury hotel in Dubai that was engulfed in flames on New Year's Eve.

Firefighters had battled the blaze raging at the swanky Address Downtown Dubai hotel late Thursday as a spectacular New Year's fireworks display lit up the night sky nearby.

The fire started around 9:30 p.m. (12:30 p.m. ET) Thursday and burned well into early Friday. Witnesses said they heard explosions as the blaze ate away at one side of the towering structure in the heart of downtown Dubai.

Bruce Szczepanski, who watched from the balcony of a nearby hotel, said he could still hear parts of the building crashing to the ground more than nine hours after the blaze began.

"There are huge flames, and you can hear the structure falling and the thuds," he said.

A couple’s photo in front of a blazing Dubai hotel has been called ‘the most inappropriate selfie ever’.

Just hours before Dubai celebrated New Year’s Eve, the Address Downtown Dubai hotel went up in flames.

One couple took the opportunity to take a selfie in front of it and posted the photo on Instagram along with the caption: ‘Happy New Year My dear Dubai. May God bless you and keep you safe, you always surprise us with the biggest fireworks.’

People were not impressed.

 

 

One commenter called it the ‘most inappropriate selfie ever.’
Another wrote: ‘Yeah let’s take a selfie where people could be burning to death.’
Thousands escaped the fire because the flames were restricted to the outside of the building.
Major General Rashed al-Matrushi, general director of the Dubai Civil Defence, told the the pan-Arab television channel Al Arabiya: ‘There are no injuries, thank God.’
It appeared to have broken out on the 20th floor.

When Alabama players knew they broke Michigan State's spirit

Tim Williams could see it in their eyes.

After the Alabama front-seven got hit after hit on Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook, Williams saw the Spartans offensive line's collective frustration. Billed as one of the nation's top offensive lines, Michigan State had no solution for stopping Alabama's pass rush.

Williams and the rest of Alabama's defense knew they were in the heads of Michigan State players. Cook was so rattled he was caught on the sidelines saying "they're f------ everywhere" about the Tide's swarming defense. Cook looked rattled and rushed throws out rather than take more hits. 

"Every time we touched the quarterback or rattled him a little bit, we'd see the linemen clap their hands and shake their heads," Williams said. "They were really down every time we hit Connor.

"They were getting down. We just broke their will. That's what we strive on doing."

Alabama landed blow after blow on Michigan State in a 38-0 Cotton Bowl beatdown. It was the worst loss in more than a decade for the Spartans, with Alabama holding MSU to season lows in total yards, rushing yards and points. The Crimson Tide secured two interceptions and finished with four sacks. Alabama forced Cook, a projected high NFL Draft pick, into his worst game as the MSU starter.

"We made sure every time we hit him, he had to feel us," Williams said. 

Alabama frustrated Michigan State all night but it truly took its toll on the Spartans in the third quarter. Cornerback Cyrus Jones delivered the dagger to the Spartans' hopes of winning.

Clemson, Alabama are last teams standing in college football

We're down to two.

And, boy, they both look impressive.

Top-ranked Clemson and No. 2 Alabama will face off in the desert for the national championship after dominating wins in the College Football Playoff semifinals Thursday. The Tigers romped in the second half for a 37-17 win over No. 4 Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, followed by an even more dominating performance in which the Crimson Tide thumped Michigan State 38-0 in the Cotton Bowl.

 

The Jan. 11 title game in Glendale, Arizona, matches a high-scoring Clemson offense led by quarterback Deshaun Watson against Nick Saban's latest dominating defense at Alabama, which limited the Spartans to 239 yards.

There's another story line to the title game. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is an Alabama alumnus who played on the Tide's 1992 national championship team.

Now, he's going against the greatest coach of this generation. Saban has won three national titles in the last six years at Alabama, to go along with a BCS title at LSU.
